Age Spots
Age spots, sometimes referred to as liver spots, are oval-shaped spots that can vary in size and color, from light tan to dark brown or black. Typically, they begin to appear as we get older, usually around the age of 50. However, depending on your skin color and the amount of time you spend in the sun, they can show up earlier.
Because they are exacerbated by exposure to the sun’s rays, especially here in Central Texas, age spots often appear on our most visible areas like our face, hands, shoulders, and arms.
While age spots do not lead to skin cancer, it may be difficult to tell the difference between age spots and other types of growths that could be precancerous, so it is a good idea to get regular examinations by a dermatologist. Also, depending on the location and number of sun spots, many people choose to have them removed for appearance reasons.
Absolute Dermatology & Medi-Spa offers many treatments to greatly reduce the sign of age spots. Our procedures include FotoFacial RF/IPL, Celluma LED light therapy, and our VI Peel. Each are simple, quick, convenient procedures that offer visibly noticeable results. In most cases, you can immediately return to your regular activities.
